Healthy Cooking Classes

We partnered with the American Heart Association to offer free cooking classes for community members. Participating individuals learned how to prepare heart-healthy meals and took the food home to their families.

STEM Saturdays

Whiting-Turner volunteers, Tori Henck and Breana Garvin, hosted a four-week Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program for children in the community. The exploration activities included oil spills, gumdrop bridge, slime making and gingerbread house earthquakes.

Musical Morning

We partnered with Karen Lowry Tucker, professional violinist from the Kennedy Center, to offer free violin lessons to elementary students. She shared her journey, explained the making of a violin and demonstrated the unique styles of music one can play on the violin.

Youth Health Fair

We partnered with the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital and our community partner, Jacqueline Caldwell, to host our annual Youth Health Fair for newborn to young adults. We partnered with the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) to host Camp NAWIC, a free five-week long day camp for young ladies in grades 7-12. Camp NAWIC was designed to introduce the students to the construction industry through hands-on experience, while visiting companies and talking one-on-one with professional females in these roles.
